Mahmudi (tribe)

The Mahmudi, also known as Pinyanişi,[1] was an Ottoman-Kurdish tribe in the Lake Van region. According to Evliya Çelebi they had 60,000 warriors.[1] Their chief, Sarı Süleyman Bey,[2] strengthened the Hoşap Castle[3] in the Lake Van region, in 1643.[4]

They bordered the Safavids, and had been raided by them.[1]
