Mai Agan (born 5 May 1988 in Kuressaare) is an Estonian bass guitarist and composer.
Biography
Agan started playing classical violin at a local children's music school when she was 6 years old and piano when she was 8. She graduated 7 years later and switched to electric bass at the age of 16. After graduating high school she moved to Tallinn in 2007.
She has graduated from Georg Ots Tallinn Music school (2010) after which she moved to Sweden; Skurups Folkhögskola (2011), The Royal College of Music in Stockholm (2014) where she is currently doing there masters degree in Performance-Jazz.
Agan is mostly known for her work with Estonian pop sensation Kerli, Swedish singer-songwriter Linnea Henriksson and her own jazz-fusion group MaiGroup that she formed in 2010. MaiGroup has released two studio albums: "Luv" (2013) and "You" (2015) consisting of original compositions written, arranged and produced by Agan.[1]
In 2012 she joined Aces of Basses led by Raul Vaigla. In november 2013 she recorded with Alessia Mattalia in Turin, Italy. November-December 2015 and February-March 2016 toured in Finland and Sweden with Doug Seegers.
She has also collaborated with Greg Leisz, David Crosby, Ebbot Lundberg, Håkan Broström, Anders Widmark, Carola Häggkvist, Tõnis Mägi, Riho Sibul, Doug Seegers, Magnus Lindgren, Stockholm Strings, Norrbotten Big Band and others.[2]
Awards
In April 2010 she won the best instrumentalist prize on Uno Naissoo Compositions Contest.[3]
