Maiko Nakamura (中村 舞子 Nakamura Maiko, born June 15, 1991[1]in Manila, Philippines[2]) is a Philippine-born Japanese R&B singer of Filipino-Spanish descent. She debuted as a musician in 2008 with the song "Because...," a collaboration with LGYankees. Since then, she has been a staple in the Japanese digital market, releasing many popular collaboration singles with R&B musicians. In 2011, she broke into the top 10 on the RIAJ Digital Track Chart with her two collaborations with R&B group Cliff Edge: "The Answer" from her second album Answer, as well as "Endless Tears" from the group's greatest hits album Best of Love.

Biography

Nakamura is half Japanese, and through her mother's side, she is one-quarter Spanish and one-quarter Filipino (her mother is a half-Filipino, half-Spanish).[1][3] Due to her parents, she was surrounded by Western music when she grew up.[4]

In October 2011, Nakamura switched major labels from King Records to Pony Canyon's KnifeEdge, releasing her song "Never Let Me Go" as a ringtone for her first release.[5]
