Main Island

An island that is the largest or most politically, economically and/or demographically significant island within an island nation or any archipelago is variously referred to as the Mainland or as the Big Island, e.g. the Orkney Mainland.

Equivalents in other languages include Grande Terre, Ilha Grande, Isla Grande, et al.
