Majlinda Bregu (born 19 May 1974) is an Albanian politician and the minister of European integration in the Berisha cabinet.[2]

Education

Bregu obtained a bachelor's degree in social sciences at the University of Tirana in 1996.[3] The following year she was visiting studente at Montreal (Canada), Oslo (Norway) and Frankfurt am Oder (Germany).

Between 1996 and 2005 she worked as Lecturer at the University of Tirana and at the Social Science Faculty with a course on "Research methods and gender issues".

She held a master's degree in social policy at the University of Tirana in 2003. She received in 2004 a PhD at Urbino University in Italy with a thesis entitled "Sociology of cultural phenomena's and normative process".[3]

Career

Bregu was the coordinator of the Social Policies at the Political Orientation Committee of the Democratic Party in January 2004. Then she became a Member of the National Council of the Party in April 2004.

In 2005 she was elected for the Democratic Party at the Albanian Parliament. From 2005 to 2007 she served as the head of Albanian Parliamentary Delegation to European Parliament, member of Health and Social Issues Parliamentary Commission and head of subcommission on Minors and Gender Equality.[3] She also served as Coordinator of the Social Policies at the Political Orientation Committee of the Democratic Party, and National coordinator of the Gender Institute at the University of Tirana.

Bregu was appointed Minister of European Integration in 2007, in the last governments of Sali Berisha.[1] She also worked as Spokesperson for the Government.

Since 2014 she is Chair of the Parliamentary Committee for European Integration and Chair of the National Council for European Integration, as well as MP for the Tirana region.

Legislative proposals

In January 2014, in the Law Commission, Bregu proposes amendments to the (Albanian) Civil Code, which would force the administrators of online media, websites and social networks to censor the comments of visitors on the ground of being offensive to "the dignity, personality and image of a woman".[4][5][6]
