MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba

Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Tun Ghafar Baba, or commonly known as MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba (formerly known as MRSM Jasin) is a co-educational boarding school in the district of Jasin in the State of Melaka, Malaysia.

History

The school was established in 1981. It is located in the district of Jasin, one of the three districts in the State of Melaka, with a total area of 50 hectares. It was launched by the Chief Minister of Malacca at that moment, YAB Datuk Mohd Adib Adam on 21 June 1981. The development of the school followed with the first phase of the Academic Block, Administration Block, Hostel Block, Kuliah Hall, the Library and the Laboratories for scientific studies.

The first batch of school students started on 2 August 1982, consisting of 150 Form 1 students and 150 Form 2 students. 16 teachers were allocated in the school at that time. The official opening of the school was completed on 8 March 1984, by Deputy Prime Minister, YAB Datuk Musa Hitam.

In 1996, MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba is officially known as one of the four MRSMs that has being implemented with a special program designed by MARA, commonly known as Program Khas Pendidikan (Special Education Programme) to train, enhance and enrich the brightest students in the country. This program enabled the school to take only students who have finished their PMR examination and passed the MRSM Entry Qualification’s Test (UKKM) done all around Malaysia with excellent results. Most of its students came from every known MRSM in the country.

The other known MRSMs which undergo the same PKP’s recognition are MRSM Taiping, MRSM Langkawi and MRSM Pengkalan Chepa. MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba has frequently entered the list of top achievers in the Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) exam with splendid results among many MRSMs and other secondary schools in Malaysia. It is one of the top 5 MRSMs in SPM examination and usually one of the top 10 secondary schools in Malaysia.. In 2001, 2005, 2006 and recently in 2012, MRSM Tun Ghafar Baba was listed as the best school for SPM level in Malaysia.[1]
