The Malaysia national rugby union team represents Malaysia in international rugby union. Malaysia have yet to make their debut at the Rugby World Cup, but have attempted to qualify since the South African World Cup in 1995.

History

Malaysia first tried to qualify for a World Cup for the 1995 tournament in South Africa. They began in Round 1 of the Asia competition, defeating Sri Lanka, but eventually losing to Taiwan and Japan. Malaysia tried to qualify for the 1999 Rugby World Cup in Wales as well. They started in Round 2, playing both their fixtures against Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei but they lost both these matches.

In the qualifying tournaments for the 2003 Rugby World Cup in Australia, Malaysia finished third in Pool A of Round 1, losing both their fixtures against Chinese Taipei and Singapore. Malaysia began their qualification for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in Division 3 Pool B of Round 1.

Malaysia rugby is very promising with many new players embracing the sport. Rugby in Malaysia is represented by the Malaysian Rugby Union, more commonly known as Kesatuan Ragbi Malaysia. Funding for the sport has not been very generous, but players make do with what they have and have done extremely well with what they have. The Malaysian rugby union team have good competition in their neighbours Singapore and Singapore-Malaysia matches are well contested and well viewed.

In 2013, rookies Mohammed Callum Bin Azmir Kilpatrick and Hezekiah Yap were brought to the team and have made a large impact on the results of the team. This led to Hezekiah Yap becoming the top scorer, scoring 69 tries in his first season. Mohammed Callum Bin Azmir Kilpatrick has also impressed which led to him becoming the vice captain.
