Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana (Urdu: ملك محمد رفيق رجوانہ; born 20 February 1949) is a Pakistani law maker and politician affiliated with PML-N who is the current Governor of Punjab.[1] A native of Multan in southern Punjab, Rajwana graduated from Government Emerson College Multan and earned a master's degree in Economics from Forman Christian College University, Lahore. He was elected as senator on PML-N seat from southern Punjab in 1997 and in 2012. Rajwana is the senior Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan and the founding member of Rajwana & Rajwana - a law firm in Pakistan. He has expertise in Civil law, Banking law, Constitutional law and Election matters and has conducted few landmarks cases including the case of Mian Nawaz Sharif, Memogate (Pakistan) Scandal,[2] Election expenses, and the cases of Alstom Energy Ltd, Rally Energy Ltd, Liverpool Cotton Association, at international level. He was the chairman of parliamentary committee for appointment of Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan in 2014.
Professional career
Rafique Rajwana joined the judiciary in 1987, which he resigned later to start his law firm Rajwana & Rajwana. In 1996, he was elected as President of High Court Bar Association Multan. His core area of practice is Civil, Company, Alternate Dispute Resolution and International/local Arbitration. He has conducted a number of high profile cases including the case of Mian Nawaz Sharif, Memogate (Pakistan) Scandal, Election expenses. He also conducted cases of Alstom Energy Ltd, Rally Energy Ltd, Liverpool Cotton Association, and many others.[3]
Political career
Rajwana has a long political affiliation with Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz). He was elected as member of the Senate of Pakistan in 1997 & in 2012.[4] In February 2014, he was appointed as chairman of the parliamentary committee for appointment of Chief Election Commissioner of Pakistan.[5] He has been member of senate committees for Foreign Affairs, Law Justice and Human Rights, Government Assurances, Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges, Senate House Committee, Devolution Process[4]
On May 10, 2015 he took oath as Governor of Punjab[1][6] province of Pakistan replacing Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar who resigned as Governor of Punjab in January 2015.[7]
