Malvern House Preparatory School

Malvern House Preparatory School, at Kearsney, Kent, was a preparatory school which specialised in preparing boys for entry to the Royal Naval College at Dartmouth. The comic writer P. G. Wodehouse attended the school for two years from 1891 and later gave its name to the fictional school (relocated to the equally fictional Bramley-on-Sea) where Bertie Wooster, Augustus (Gussie) Fink-Nottle, and Reginald "Kipper" Herring studied in their earlier years, under the headmaster the Rev Aubrey Upjohn.

Bertie Wooster and Kipper Herring, while having breakfast at the Wooster residence in the novel Jeeves in the Offing spoke unfavourably of the food served there, specifically, the sausages on Sunday and the boiled mutton with caper sauce. The sausages were further expanded upon when Roberta "Bobbie" Wickham inserted a caustic remark that Kipper had mentioned to her, namely that the sausages were made, "not from content pigs but pigs that had expired, regretted by all, of glanders, the botts and tuberculosis" into the scathing review Kipper wrote of Upjohn's reminiscences of life in Malvern House and resulted in the subsequent suit of Kipper for libel by Upjohn.
