Manas Robin (Assamese: মানস ৰবীন) is an Assamese lyricist, singer, composer, music director, filmmaker, music producer. He is one of the top musicians of Assam (India). He has consistently churn out chartbusters during the last ten years.

One of the most recognized faces in the North-east region, he has been in forefront of Assamese music industry having a wide range of compositions in Assamese language under his belt. Folk music of the North-east has got a new lease of life at his hands as he has composed songs using hitherto unsung folk tunes of the various ethnic communities of the state of Assam as well as the other states of the North-east India.

For this young man, the musical journey from an obscure village named Nimaijan in Sivasagar district to the helm of Assamese music was quite a story to be told.

Personal life

Childhood

Hailed as one in complete control of the nitty-gritty of folk music of this part of the region (North-eastern India), Manas Robin, one of the most successful composers of Assam, was born to Mr Rabindra Nath Gogoi and Mrs Tilabala Dihingia on 17 December 1976. He did his early schooling at 233 No. Nimaijan Prathamik Vidyalaya (primary school). He did his matriculation from the prestigious Sivasagar Government Higher Secondary School.

A cultured youth

He had a very cultured time growing up to the college level, having rooted to the very grass root of his motherland. He went to Jagannath Barooah College, Jorhat.

Career

The Beginning:

It was in the year 1995 when his first solo album Niharika under the banner of Music Makers was released. It was followed by Ujan Piriti in 1997 under Typhoon Production, Manas Kanya and Barasha under Saraswati Communications in 1999. Barasha gave him the much needed impetus, and his music was assimilated in the psyche of Assamese music lovers. He was romped home by premier music production house NK Production where his now illustrious career got a shot in the arm in the role of Assam’s singing superstar Zubeen Garg. It was a jugalbandi of a melodious voice and a highly creative composer. And the rest is history.

The triumph:

He became the youngest director to score music for an Assamese film in 1999 when he composed music for Priya O’ Priya. After that, he went on to score music for six more Assamese feature films. In most of them, his works as a music director had attracted rave reviews from the cinegoers as well as critics.

And his production Jonbai, a VCD film based entirely on Bihu and the sentiments attached to it, has been a piece de resistance for Assamese music-lovers of the State and abroad, since its inception in the year 2005. Jonbai went on to become the most successful video film ever in recent times.

The versatility:

He has been the most popular song composer of the last decade.

He has directed music for nearly 500 music albums including Assamese and other languages of the North-east.

He has produced and directed several VCD films in Assamese, including the super hit Jonbai.

He is the one and only music director who has directed audio albums for legendary singer Dr. Bhupen Hazarika to Zubeen Garg.
