Mangu Singh

Mangu Singh (born 15 December 1955) is managing director of Delhi Metro. He took over as managing director after E. Sreedharan, the former managing director, retired from service on 31 December 2011.[1][2] He is an Indian Railways Service of Engineers (IRSE) officer of the 1981 batch.

Personal life

Singh was born in Najibabad, a small town in Uttar Pradesh.[3] Born in Bijnor (Uttar Pradesh) on 15 December 1955, Singh received his early education from his native place and later graduated in civil engineering from the highly prestigious University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) in 1979 with an outstanding academic performance. He also received Master of Science (sustainable development). He is another famous personality from Bijnore (U.P.) after Raja Jwala Prasad (another luminary from his alma mater, erstwhile Thomason College of Civil Engineering, Roorkee 1900 batch who was an eminent civil engineer during the British Raj and a great philanthropist).

Education

He is a B.E (civil) from University of Roorkee (now IIT Roorkee) of 1979 batch.

Career

Singh joined Indian Railway Service of Engineers, in March, 1983 (IRSE) through the 1981 UPSC Examination. After training he held various positions such as deputy chief engineer, Kolkata Metro Railway (1989-1996).

Singh joined DMRC at inception in November 1997 in the capacity of chief engineer/chief project manager and moved upwards to executive director and then director (works). He also assisted other State Governments in developing metro systems in cities like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata East-West Line etc..

Singh has also headed the successful Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects of Delhi Metro, the only successful projects in Railway Transportation Sector in the world.

Achievements

Singh is the recipient of National Award (Railway Week Award 1996) for his contribution in completing the Kolkata Metro Rail Project, distinguished Alumni Award - Global Meet IIT (Roorkee) 2007 and Engineer of the year award 2012 by IEI.

Singh has published/presented many technical papers in National and International Journals/Conferences etc.

Singh is a member of many Technical Institutions and president, Tunneling Association of India.
