Marcel Langenegger (April 2, 1967 - September 10, 2015) was a Swiss film director, film producer and screenwriter from Rebstein, Switzerland.[1] His 2008 debut feature film, Deception, starred Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor, and Michelle Williams.[2]

Biography

Langenegger read Art and Film at the University of Zurich and Design and Visual Arts at the Art Center College of Design in Vevey. He was part of a Masters Degree class in Film at California's Art Center College of Design. Later he worked freelance as designer and art director back in Zürich before relocating in 1995 to Los Angeles. In 2000 he signed with Propaganda Films but the company collapsed when the owner caught cancer, later he signed with Warner but his contract was annulled after the merger with AOL. He could only finish his first feature film Deception by doing every single scene with his star Hugh Jackman in a single month as that was the only time window when Jackman made Australia at the same time.[3]

In 2012 he produced Jordan Roberts' 3,2,1... Frankie Go Boom, starring Charlie Hunnam, Chris O'Dowd, Lizzy Caplan, Chris Noth, Whitney Cummings, and Ron Perlman.[4] He wrote 2014 the Samurai Action-Drama film Blue Eyed Samurai, which did not go into production yet.[5] In May 2014 Relativity Media announced, that Langenegger will direct the psychological horror film Latitude.[6]

In January 2015 intrepid Pictures confirmed, Langenegger will replace Bryan Bertino as director of the sequel to The Strangers.[7]
