History

Marcus & Co. was co-founded in 1892 by Marcus Herman, a German-born former employee of Tiffany & Co., and his two sons, William and George Elder.[1][2] It was located at 17th Street and Broadway in Manhattan.[3]

The designers used gemstones such as zircons, chrysoberyls, tourmalines, opals, garnets, beryls, spinels, and peridots.[1] French miniature portraitist Fernand Paillet designed a pendant for them.

The company was sold to Gimbels in 1941.[1] It merged with Black, Starr, and Frost in 1962.[1]
