Margaret Mercer

Margaret Mercer was for many years program director of WQXR in New York, the most listened-to classical music station in the United States, and at the time of her directorship under the ownership of The New York Times Company .[1][2]

As such, her programming direction, decisions, and choices as to program content, material, and coverage and coordination of classical music and other cultural events have had significant and lasting influence on shaping the artistic and cultural scene in one of the world's great cities, and, by influence and extension, on an international scale as well.[3]

WQXR is now owned by nonprofit New York Public Radio, Mercer having left WQXR in 2009.[4]
