Maria Merkert

Maria Merkert (born in Neiße, Prussian Silesia (present-day Nysa, Opole Voivodeship) on September 21, 1817; died November 14, 1872) was the co-Foundress and first Superior General of the Congregation of St Elizabeth. Her father died when she was an infant and her mother died in 1842. Along with her sister she devoted herself to the poor. She was declared venerable in 2004.[1] Her beatification was held on September 30, 2007 in Nysa.
