Marina Viktorovna Orlova (Russian: Марина Викторовна Орлова; born 25 March 1986) is an award winning Russian actress who has starred in 35 major movies and TV shows in Moscow, Beijing and Paris. In Russian speaking world she is called as Russian Marilyn Monroe. She is in top 10 among most famous and recognized Russian young actresses. Marina currently resides in Los Angeles and is pursuing her career in Hollywood.
Early years
Marina Orlova was born on a spring morning in the resort town of Pyatigorsk, March 25, 1986, into a family of intellectuals. Marina’s mother, Ludmila was a teacher of French and German and her father Victor was a musician (accordion). Marina started to sing before talking. She had a unique low voice that is unusual for children. Already in early childhood her incredible musical talent became apparent. When she was three years old, Marina wrote her first song - "Lullaby" for herself. 20 years later this song was featured in the famous television series "Dear People".
School days
Marina went to an elementary school as all children do. But she stood out from other kids because during the breaks between her classes she played the piano and sang her songs instead of just playing with kids. One day the Director of the musical school was visiting this elementary and while he was walking down the hall he heard a beautiful voice. He was absolutely convinced that the voice was of a grown woman but to his surprise it was just a little girl. He noticed Marina’s talents and the very next day she was representing his school in the music competition called "Rising Star", where she won first place. After that Marina was invited to participate in the city contests and concerts while newspapers printed the pictures of this uniquely talented girl. One of the most elite and prestigious clubs in Pyatigorsk "The Golden Palace" had invited 9-year-old Marina to work as a singer. Every day after school her father drove her to work to perform in an evening concert. On the weekends Marina worked on children's matinees. When she turned 11 Marina graduated with honors from the classical music school in an accelerated program and enrolled in vocal jazz school, where she studied singing. Marina’s first acting experience was playing the skits in an improvisation comedy team of KVN. In 2001, when she was 15, Marina received the award "Miss KVN" as the most artistic girl.
Marina Orlova graduated high school two years earlier. She told her parents that she wanted to become an actress but they said that this is impossible. Instead of going to college she defied her parents she ran away from home at night and bought a train ticket to Moscow, and like so many similar 'rags to riches' stories here in America, Marina took off with only $200 to her name and went to the capital to pursue her dream acting career.
Moscow and Theatre school
Marina held qualifying rounds in five most prestigious theaters university in Moscow and got accepted in all five theatrical schools, Moscow Art Theatre School - MXAT, Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute, Higher Theatre school (Institute) named after M.S.Shepkin, The Russian University of Theatre Art (GITIS), All-Russian State University of Cinematography named after S.A. Gerasimov (aka VGIK) For 6 years Marina Orlova studied by the Stanislavski's system in Moscow Art Theatre School - MXAT and her masters were the best actors and directors in Russia. Her performance diploma "Echelon"(Troop train) became a winner of the Moscow’s International Festival. In 2006, she graduated from University with honors and received a Masters Diploma in the specialty "Theater and Film Actress” and “Master of Theatrical Skill” The most striking theatrical feature in the life of the actress was her performance in an American play "Biloxi Blues", in which Marina played two roles Daisy and Ravenna. This theatrical play was very successful in Russia.
