Mark Leigh is a British author and scriptwriter. He is the author of over 50 humour and trivia books. He has also co-authored books with a number of British celebrities.
Early life
Mark Leigh was born and brought up in North West London in Kenton, a suburb of Harrow in Middlesex. His parents are Philip Leigh who worked for the UK agent of a Japanese technology company and Edith Leigh (nee Gluckstein) who worked for the film distributor Gaumont British. Leigh attended Harrow County School for Boys where he met his future writing partner Mike Lepine and then Stanmore College. He was offered a place at Central London Polytechnic on a Photographic Arts degree but did not take this offer up. Instead he began work at London advertising agency Doyle Dane Bernbach.
Career
Leigh’s first book The Complete Revenge Kit, a collection of fake but authentic and official-looking letters designed as practical jokes was published in 1985, co-authored with Mike Lepine. A year later he wrote How To Be A Complete Bastard with Mike and alternative comic Ade Edmondson. The book was a best seller and spawned a calendar, board game and computer game. Since then he has written over 50 books including those with celebrities Julian Clary, Jeremy Beadle, Pamela Stephenson, Roy 'Chubby' Brown, Des Lynam and Chris Tarrant. Leigh followed a parallel career in TV scriptwriting and development work for a number of British comedians including Hale and Pace, Noel Edmonds, Bobby Davro, Brian Conley, Joe Pasquale and Russ Abbot. He was also employed by London Weekend Television as script consultant on the Hall and Pace show.
