Markus Werba (born 14 November 1973) is an Austrian baritone opera singer.[1]

Biography

Born in Carinthia, Austria, Werba began his vocal training aged 16. He studied at the Conservatory of Klagenfurt and University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna with Ralf Doering, Robert Holl and Walter Berry. He has won numerous competitions for his singing in Austria, Italy, Japan, Slovakia and the UK. He was chosen as Guglielmo in 1997 (Così fan tutte) for the inauguration of the Nuovo Piccolo Teatro in Milan by Giorgio Strehler.

After his Debut in Milan he sang in all major opera houses.

In 2000 Werba made his début at the operà national de paris , in 2001 at the Teatro Massimo di Palermo and in 2005 at the Salzburg Festival as Papageno (The Magic Flute). He made his début at La Scala in 2006,at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich in 2007, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in 2008, the Metropolitan Opera in 2010.

In 2010 September, he made his Vienna State Opera début as Papageno (The Magic Flute).[2] In 2011 August Werba made his dèbut as Pelléas at the teatro Colon. In 2013 August, he made his role dèbut as Beckmesser in Die Meistersinger von Nürnburg for the Salzburg Festival. In 2014 November, he made his role dèbut as Rodrigo in Don Carlo at the New National Theatre in Japan.


He is also in demand on the concert and recital platform having given recitals in Royal Festival Hall, salle pleyel, Wigmore Hall, in the Musikverein Vienna, St Martin-in-the-Fields, Mozarteum Salzburg, Suntory Hall Tokyo.
