Maroof (village)

Maroof is a known village in this area with a long history. Ch Ahmed who was son of ch azmat ullah was appointed qazi of this region in last days of mughals empire. And Ch Hafiz Raheem baksh from his lineage was a great punjabi poet. Born in 1859 he wrote several books. One them is Quliat e Hafiz Raheem Baksh. He died in 1930. His son ch Abdul Haq was vice chairman in uc kulla chorr during the reign of President Ayub. He also served in first world war during British era. His grandson Ch Iftikhar Ahmad khan is currently member of Cplc district Gujrat and finance sec. for district Gujrat. He is also elected as chairman Masalti comitee Jalal pur Jattan. Another prominent family from this village is descendents of ch mumtaz. His son ch mubashar was elected counselor in 2015. Residents from Maroof have migrated to Norway, Netherlands, Uae, Italy, Spain, Usa and Canada. Majority of the inhabitants belong to gujjar tribe while there are a few families belonging to jatt and butt tribes.
