Marrickville railway station is located on the Bankstown line, serving the Sydney suburb of Marrickville. It is served by Sydney Trains T3 Bankstown line services.
History
Marrickville station opened on 1 February 1895 when the Bankstown line opened from Sydenham to Belmore.[1][2]
When the station opened, it consisted only of the island platform. In 1916, the station's platforms were reconstructed with a new platform, now platform 2, built to the south of the island platform and the northern side of the island platform closed to make way for the Metropolitan Goods Line. The station has retained this set-up to date.[2]
The station is currently receiving an upgrade. This will include lifts and a new a new concourse. The work is scheduled to be completed in 2016.[3][4]
As part of these works, the stairs from Illawarra Road have been demolished and a temporary footbridge erected at the station's eastern end. A pair of containers have had their sides cut out and converted to temporary waiting shelters.
