Marsham Argles

The Very Rev Marsham Argles (1814–1891), born in County Limerick in Ireland, was the Dean of Peterborough in the Church of England from 1891 until his death a year later.[1][2]

Born in 1814 and educated at Merton College, Oxford,[3] he was ordained into the priesthood in 1838. His first posts were curacies in Bolton, St Martin-in-the-Fields and Cranford after which he was appointed Vicar of Gretton.[4] He then began a long association with Peterborough Cathedral firstly as a Canon [5] then Chancellor [6] and finally Dean. His son was later a priest.[7]
