Life and works
Marta's original work is a reflection of her manifold experiences in the arts from classical music, early exposure to the modern masters and the unique urban and seaside topographies that have shaped her life. Her works have been described as "Finely crafted with bucolic hues that are eye catching and uplifting but never at the expense of a deeper meaning and sophisticated sensuality".
Grigorieva, the daughter of two doctors, began her career by studying economics in St Petersburg Technological University (1985 –1990), before studying Fine Arts at Harvard University, Graduate School of Art and Sciences (1996 –1997). In 1990, she moved to Manhattan, where she worked at Christie's Russian department, specialising in the works of Faberge. She studied with the leading American portrait painter Nelson Shanks at the Art Students League of New York (1997 - 2001).[1] She has exhibited at Harvard and Sotheby's. She spent five years in Piedmont, Italy, from 2001 to 2006, where she produced numerous landscapes and commissioned portraits. From 2006 she has been based in London, and from 2012 in Monaco.
Grigorieva is a member of International Federation of Artists and Moscow Union of Artists and the Monegasque National Committee of the International Association of Plastic Arts at UNESCO.
Grigorieva has painted portrait commissions for prominent people in Monaco, London, Turin, Moscow and New York, including for Ted Kennedy, HRH Princess Michael of Kent, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the founder of Easy Jet, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees,[2] Professor Robert Mundell, the recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economics, as well as vice-chairman of UBS, London, Philip Byrne, and the Governor of the Khabarovsk region, Russia Vyacheslav Shport. Her portrait of Nelson Mandela is in the private collection of HRH Prince Albert and Princess Charlene of Monaco.[3]
