Martin Attlee, 2nd Earl Attlee

Martin Richard Attlee, 2nd Earl Attlee (10 August 1927 – 27 July 1991) was a British seaman and politician, the son of former British Prime Minister Clement Attlee, the first Earl Attlee.[1] Martin Attlee served in the Merchant Navy between 1945 and 1950. He inherited the earldom, which carried with it a seat in the House of Lords, on his father's death in 1967. For some fifteen years he sat on the Labour benches, as his father had done, but in 1982 he joined the Social Democrats.

He died in July 1991 at the age of 63, when his peerage was inherited by his son John.
