Martuni District (NKAO)
For other uses, see Martuni.
Martuni District was one of the five districts (raions) of the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast (NKAO) of the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic (AzSSR).[1] In 1991 the parliament of Azerbaijan abolished Martuni District, incorporating its territory into the neighbouring Azerbaijani Khojavend District.[2]
The unrecognized Nagorno-Karabakh Republic has defined its Martuni Province as being the former Martuni District, plus some surrounding land captured during the Nagorno-Karabakh War from Azerbaijan. The eastern part of Martuni Rayon remains in Azerbaijani control.
