Maruthamunai
Maruthamunai is a beautiful coastal village under Kalmunai Divisional Secretariat in the Ampara district of the south-eastern region of Sri lanka.
Maruthamunai was one of the villages most severely affected by the Indian Ocean Tsunami on December 26, 2004.[1] The disaster killed 922 residents of the village and displaced 11086. Previous to the disaster the population of the village was officially 17393. In addition to over 1300 homes, many public buildings were destroyed by the tsunami. The area is rebuilding.
Maruthamunai was a village that is mostly dominated by Tamil Speaking Muslims, although there are a few other Religions.
