Master of Science in Project Management
The Master of Science in Project Management (M.S.P.M.), also known as Master in Project Management (M.P.M.) is a professional advanced degree in project management.
Candidates of M.P.M. programs are required to have at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited university and significant work experience (12 years on average). Most programs require 36-42 graduate credits and a thesis or final project. While programs may vary, most curricula are designed to provide professionals with the knowledge, skills and abilities to lead and manage effectively. Students normally engage in the study of concepts, methodologies and analytic techniques necessary for successful leadership of programs/projects within complex organizations. Curricula typically focus on problem solving and decision-making using case studies, teaming exercises, hands-on applications, active participation, research and integrative exercises. Lecture and laboratory sessions require the application of critical thinking to problem solving within notional and actual situations.
These Master programs usually provide general education revolving around business organization. Such degree is not only for future project managers but also offers opportunities in consultancy, business analysis, business development, operations management, supply chain management, business administration, or any other area of business or management.
Illinois State University offers a Masters of Science in Project Management with an opportunity to obtain a graduate certificate in Project Management and an additional graduate certificate in Training and Development. Illinois State University also offers a master's degree in STEM Education and Leadership. Boston University in the United States and through its Brussels campus in Belgium offers a Post-Graduate Certificate in Project Management that is recognized by the Project Management Institute and can be credited towards the CAPM credential as well as a Master of Science in Management degree. Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) conducts a Masters of Science Program in project Management which complies with EuroMPM program. Reykjavik University (RU)[1] offers a two-year Master of Project Management (MPM) program that is 90 ECTS credits. Its venue is the new Reykjavik University campus located at the heart of Reykjavik City, the capital of Iceland.
There has been an explosion in opportunities to obtain an online Master of Science in Project Management (M.S.P.M.). Many programs, such as the one offered by Granite State College,[2] have achieved global accreditation while offering the entire program via graduate online courses in Project Management. Granite State College offers coursework geared toward building a well-rounded graduate able to sit for the PMP credential.
In Iran Amirkabir University of Technology offers a two-year Master of Project Management (MPM) from diverse educational backgrounds. Designed with the highest standards and delivered by specialized faculty, Project Management course embraces core modules. The University of Limerick in Ireland offers a Masters in Project Management (MPM). This could be considered an MBA with Project Management although there is more emphasis on the soft skills required to make the project manager a better leader. Harrisburg University of Science and Technology in Pennsylvania, USA, offers a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology Project Management as well as three Specialized Certificates in IT Project Management. Missouri State University located in Springfield, Missouri offers an online Masters of Science degree in Project Management with a thesis or non-thesis option. Harrisburg University's program is a Registered Education Provider for the Project Management Institute and courses taken prepare students for the exam. University of hertfordshire in Hatfield, UK offers a master of science Degree in Project Management. Drexel University[3] in Philadelphia, PA, USA, offers an online Master of Science in Project Management (MSPM) degree program. George Washington University in the District of Columbia, USA, offers a Masters of Science in Project Management (MSPM) program. The Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science & Technology (SZABIST), Islamabad and Bahria University Islamabad also offer a Masters Program in Project Management (MPM).The University of Aberdeen, Scotland, provides an MSc in Project Management as well. Morgan State University,[4] accredited by AACSB International for both their Business program and their Accounting program offers both a M.S. in Project Management as well as a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Project Management.
