Mathew Murray (born June 4, 1993) is a Canadian web series creator, writer and director.
Career
Murray attended film school at York University in Toronto.[1] As a student, his short films screened at numerous film festivals.[2][3][4][5][6]
Teenagers
In early 2014, Murray's first web series teenagers (2014–present) gained significant popularity on YouTube and initially attracted media attention because its cast included several Degrassi stars including Chloe Rose and Raymond Ablack.[7][8][9][10][11] Since its release, the series has received positive reviews from blogs and indie publications,[12][13][14][15][16][17] and has screened at festivals around the world, winning awards at both the 2014 and 2015 Los Angeles Web Series Festival.[18][19][20] Susie Stone of culturestarved.com wrote: "I saw humans. Shattering and trembling, but at times so quiet and beautifully real. I saw short spurts of what is really happening in the teen world. This series is evocative, sweet, daring, and scary."[21]
For the second season of the series, award-winning television director T.J. Scott served as executive producer.[22][23] The first episode of the second season premiered on July 26, 2015,[24] and has since been viewed over 2 million times on YouTube.[25] The second season was nominated for various awards, including a Canadian Screen Award[26] and four Indie Series Awards.[27]
In 2016, for his work on teenagers, Murray won the award for Best Screenplay at the Vancouver Web Series Festival.[28][29]
