Matiari District (Sindhi:ضِلعو مٽیاري) Matiari is oldest territory of sindh. The shrine of sakhi Hashim shah badshah is also located in matiari, matiari is the city of the sayeds and matiari is also famous of it's ice cream, kashi, ajrak ( a Sindhi dressing) and sindhi handicraft. Matiari is located at the center of the sindh. Hazrat shah Abdul latif bhittai is also located in matiari. The word matiari is drived from muthal of Mat-yari that means the relation with pots made of mud, clay to keep water cool and serve people that came from outside.

History
The district was created in 2005 out of Hyderabad District.[2] Muhammad Usman Chachar was the first District Coordination Officer (D.C.O) of district matiari and he served for 3 years. That was benazir bhutto's dream that matiari became a district and she visited several times matiari at hashmi house at that time she also visited shrine of sakhi hashim shah badshah and said that when I came to matiari I feel that I'm at my home syed pir noor shah hashmi and his family had always served for district matiari.
