Matthew "Matt" Done (born 22 July 1988) is an English-born Welsh professional footballer who currently plays for English League One club Sheffield United as a winger.

In his 11-year-long playing career, Done has previously played for Wrexham, Hereford United, Rochdale, Barnsley and Hibernian. In February 2015, he signed for Sheffield United.

Early life

Done attended the Marches School and Technology College in his home town of Oswestry.

Club career

Wrexham

He started his career at Wrexham and broke into the first team squad at the start of the 2006–07 season, having made a handful of substitute appearances the previous season. His debut came a month after his 17th birthday, as a substitute in a home defeat to Doncaster Rovers. He made his full debut on the last day of the season against Darlington.

His first goal for Wrexham came against Grimsby Town,[1] and he went on to score against Sheffield Wednesday during a 4–1 win in the League Cup.[2]

He was offered a new contract by Wrexham in May 2008 following the club's relegation to the Football Conference.[3]

Hereford United

However, he choose to stay in the Football League and signed for League One club Hereford United for an undisclosed fee in June 2008.[4] He scored his first goal for the club against Swindon Town in the Football League Trophy on 8 October 2008.[5]

Rochdale

Done signed for League One newcomers Rochdale on 31 July 2010 on a six-month contract. He scored his first goal for the club in the Football League Trophy against Port Vale on 31 August 2010.[6] His contract was subsequently extended until the end of the season. On 16 May 2011 it was announced Matt had signed a new contract until the end of the 2011–12 season.

Barnsley

Just a month after signing a new contract with Rochdale, Done signed for Championship club Barnsley on 21 June 2011, along with Scott Wiseman.[7][8] He played regularly during the 2011–12 season, but suffered a knee injury early in the 2012–13 season.[9] Barnsley then changed manager and new tactics meant that Done was surplus to their requirements.[9] On 31 January 2013, Done signed for Scottish Premier League club Hibernian on loan until the end of the 2012–13 season.[10] Done scored his first goal for the "Hibees" on 3 March, in a 4–2 victory against Kilmarnock in the 2012–13 Scottish Cup.[11] Barnsley announced on 9 May that Done will leave the club at the end of his contract.[12]

Return to Rochdale

Done re-signed for Rochdale on a one-year contract on 8 July 2013.[13] Done played 38 times in Dale's promotion winning season, as a result he signed a new 2-year contract on 27 May 2014.[14] On 19 August 2014, Done scored a hat-trick in a 5–2 win over Crewe Alexandra.[15]

Sheffield United

On 2 February 2015, Matt Done signed a two-and-a-half-year-deal with Sheffield United for an undisclosed fee.[16] On 10 February 2015, Done scored on his Blades début in a 4–1 home victory over Colchester United.[17] On 14 February 2015 in his second match for United, Done scored a brace away at Bristol City in a 3–1 victory against the league leaders.[18]
