Matthew Battersby
Matthew Robertson Battersby (b.8.12.1841-d.17.5.1899) was a politician in Queensland, Australia. He was a Member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly[1] serving for the Electoral District of Moreton, from 17 May 1888 to 18 March 1899.
Battersby, a blacksmith, was born in Perth, Scotland, the son of Matthew Battersby and Elizabeth (nee Robertson); he arrived in Queensland from Scotland in 1865 and continued his trade until he settled on a property in Caboolture; he had two sons and three daughters. [2] [3]
He died suddenly in May 1899 after serving as a member of Parliament for eleven years. [4]
