Mayuge Solar Power Station is a proposed 15 megawatts (20,000 hp) solar power plant in Uganda.[1]
Location
The power plant would be located on 100 acres (40 ha) of leased land in Bufulubi Village, Imanyiro sub-county, Mayuge District, in the Eastern Region of Uganda, approximately 110 kilometres (68 mi) by road east of Kampala, the country's capital and largest city.[2]
Overview
Emerging Power Uganda Limited, a renewable energy developer, has secured a 25-year lease on 100 acres (40 ha) of land from the Busoga Kyabazingaship for the purpose of building a 15 megawatt solar farm.[3] Application has been made to the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) to set up the plant and sell the power to Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited for integration into the national electric grid.[4]
Developers and funding
The plant is budgeted to cost UGX:102 billion to construct.[3]
Timeline
The construction is expected to start following the issuance of a generation license by the ERA. It would last six months, with commissioning expected during the second half of 2016.[3]
