McAllen Botanical Gardens

McAllen Nature Center (20 acres), also known as McAllen Botanical Gardens, is a city-operated nature preserve located in McAllen, Texas at 4101 West Business US 83, McAllen, Texas. It is open seasonally: November through May, 8 am to 5 pm seven days per week, and June through October, Mondays through Fridays from 8 am to noon and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 am to 5 pm.

The gardens were established in 1962, with an emphasis on palms. The site is no longer maintained as a botanical garden but as a general nature site. The site contains 3/4 mile of trails through pristine native thornscrub habitat with great birding opportunities. It also has picnic areas and flush toilets. Admission is free and public nature and fitness programs are offered free of charge.
