Media imaginary

The media imaginary is a term employed within media and cultural study to indicate the complex of myths, beliefs, and fantasies surrounding different media. It refers to the fact that media are not only technologies, artifacts, or social systems, but also cultural constructs that contribute to the formation of the understanding of broader societal and cultural issues.[1] The media imaginary intersects with discourses that present technology as a primary agent of social, political, economic and cultural change, such as technological utopianism and technological determinism.
