Meknès-Tafilalet (Berber: Meknas-Tafilalt) was formerly one of the sixteen regions of Morocco from 1997 to 2015.[1] It was situated in north-central Morocco, bordering Algeria. It covered an area of 79,210 km² and had a population of 2,316,865 (2014 census).[2] The capital was Meknès.

History

Considerable prehistory is evidenced within the region, notably the ruined ancient city of Volubilis, which was originally settled by Phoenicians and Romans.[3]
