Melbourne bus route 509 is a Public Transport Victoria bus route in Melbourne. At two kilometres, it is the shortest in Melbourne. It was withdrawn in September 2012 before being reinstated in January 2016.

History

In 1977, route 509 was sold by G Long to Chris' Coaches, who sold it in 2001 to two employees trading as Hope Street Bus Line.[1]

In 2012, Public Transport Victoria decided to cease funding the route citing low patronage.[2] In May 2015, a consultation commenced to reinstate the route.[3] As a result, the route recommenced on 4 January 2016 operated by Dyson's Bus Services.[4][5]

As at April 2016 it operates six times in each direction during the off-peak period from Monday to Saturday.[6]
