Melukara is a small sub-village of Kozhencherry in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala, India.

Location

Melukara is on the banks of Pampa River. Three sides of Melukara is surrounded by River Pampa. That is one of the reasons majority of residents of Melukara knew swimming. This place is belong to Kozhencherry Panchayat. Melukara is very beautiful and full of greenery.

Demographics

Melukara is surrounded by pampa river. Its humid and full with Nut-Meg trees. Since the land is fertile, all plantations are present in Melukara including Rubber trees. Along with vegetable agriculture, farmers in Melukara, cultivate Coconut trees,Mangostin, Rambutan, jackfruit trees, mango trees, etc. The peoples are well educated. Peace and harmony is the symbol of this village.

Sree Subrahmania Swami Temple is in the heart of Melukara and thiruvulsavam is being conducted every year. A Marthoma Primary School, A Grade Vayanashala, A Marthoma church, Subrahmania swami temple, Sreekrishna swami temple, health center are a few social and religious centers in Melukara.

Melukara palliyodam (snakeboat) won the first prize in boat race which was conducted in 1st time in Aranmula. Melukara won several prizes after that. In 2011 the residents of Melukara made a new Snake boat "melukara palliyodam". It was made by "Ayroor Chellappan Achari" in the name of God Thiruvaranmulayappan.

Kuruthootickal Rev. K. T. Thomas belonged to Melukara village. He is the founder father of many institutions in Kozhencherry which include St. Thomas Boy's school, St. Mary's Girls school, Kozhencherry St. Thomas college, Marthoma hospital, etc. The people of ko Melukara got good education and good health care due to these institutes. Kozhencherry St. Thomas Marthoma church, which is the biggest Marthoma church in the world, was built by marthomites in Kozhencherry under the leadership of Rev. K. T. Thomas.

Chittedathu Family is a famous historical Nair Tharavadu in Melukara. Indian Freedom fighter Sri Chittedathu Sankuppilla was an unavoidable part in Indian Freedom fight. He had conducted Panthibhojanamin the time of freedom fight in chittedathu tharavadu. Mahatma Gandhi commented him as Dheeranaya Porali. The Chittedathu family has more than 300 families in Melukara and around areas. Every alternate year Sree Nagachamundi Devi Thiruvutsavam will celebrate with Bhairavi-kkolam thullal and kalamezhuthum pattum. Melukara SreeKrishna Swami Temple is owned by the Chittedathu family. Sree Palan Pulayan Temple in Kanjeetukara is also own by Chittedathu Family. It is a history in the world that Adiyane Poojikkunna Tambran.Kurumthottickal,Vadasseril, Prayatt, Valiyatharayil, Thenjaril, Mannumeladethu, Nadayil, Ambattu, Kanjiramon, Manackal, Kuttippinackal, Kezhoor, Thottolil, kizhakkeparolil are other prominent families in Melukara.
