Meppel Location within Dutch railway station |
Meppel is a railway station in Meppel, the Netherlands. The station opened on 1 October 1867 and is on the Arnhem–Leeuwarden railway and Meppel–Groningen railway. The services are operated by Nederlandse Spoorwegen.
Although renovated the building is still the original SS type 3e(SS=Staats Spoorlijnen: State Railway lines) building from 1866. Only a few SS type buildings still exist in the country. In total three buildings of this type were built: Enschede (demolished in 1950) and Hengelo (demolished 1899). These stations were designed by K.H. van Brederode, who also designed several other models for the State Railway company.[1]
