Merrill Academy is a secondary school with a sixth form for students 11–19 years of age, located in Alvaston, Derby, England. In September 2006, the school opened a new building which was PFI funded and cost approximately £15m to build.
The Derby College Group
Derby College has been a partner of Merrill since September 2010, and in January 2013 became the Academy sponsor. The focus for the Academy is characterised by an ethos which values education, high achievements and success.[1]

Admissions Policy
The Academy is part of the Co-ordinated Admissions Scheme for Derby City which requires all parents to complete a preference form. In doing so, Merrill Academy must be listed as one of your preferences on the Local Authority form.
School Clubs
Merrill Academy offer a range of clubs and trips for young students these include Science Club, ICT Club, Choir, Film Club, Reading Club, There are also a variety of sport based clubs where all students are welcome and games and coaching take place. These include: Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football and others.
School Publications
The Merrill Academy student newspaper is called Buzz, it provides students with a round-up of news and events, it is published online 4 times a year. Staff and parents also receive a newsletter called In Touch

Events
2005 was when the preparations for the new building on Bracken's lane was released to the public. September 2006 was the date for the new building open for the students. 2016 will be the 10th anniversary of the Brackens Lane site being open.
Former pupils & Alumni
- Kelly Yeomans committed suicide due to bullying at the school.
- Steve Doyle is now a Performance Analyst for Derby County Football Academy.
- Hayley Repton is now a Police Officer working in Derby Constabulary.
- Rebecca Lombard-Thompson is now a sports star.
- Tom Nicholas is now a Business Lecturer at Derby College.
