Mervin H. Muniz Jr. Memorial Handicap is an Grade II American Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged four and older run annually in early March at Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana on the turf at a distance of 1 1⁄8 miles (nine furlongs).
Race history
The race was formerly known as the Explosive Bid Handicap but was renamed for the 2004 edition to honor Mervyn R. Muniz, Jr., a longtime racing secretary at Fair Grounds Race Course who died in 2003.[1]
There was no race in 2006 due to Hurricane Katrina.
