Michael Stefano (born in 1958)[1] is a certified personal trainer, a captain with the New York City Fire Department, and the author of The Firefighter's Workout Book.[2] He starred in the "Firefighter's Workout" DVD[3] and currently promotes fitness for emergency responders and others, and in particular resistance training using kettlebells, out of Long Island, New York.[4]

The Firefighter's Workout Book was originally published in October 2000, about a year before the attacks of September 11, 2001, and was dedicated to the 774 New York City firefighters who had given their lives in the line of duty at the time it went to press. 341 additional NYC firefighters gave their lives as a result of the September 11 attacks,[5] leading to a flurry of media and other products honoring emergency responders in general and New York City firefighters in particular. A paperback edition of The Firefighter's Workout Book was released by Harper in December 2001 and is still in print.[6] Stefano's articles and exercise routines have appeared on America Online, Yahoo!, eDiets, iVillage and other Web sites.[7] Mr. Stefano is also a master coach with the World Kettlebell Club and owns and operates a Kettlebell Cross Performance gym on Long Island New York.
