Michal Novinski, (born Michal Nicik, 1971 in Slovak Republic) is a music composer best known for his film scores and theatre music. He received two Czech Lion Awards for music score for films Kooky and In the Shadow.
Career
Michal Novinski's career started when he was 19 years old with a commission from the Slovak National Theatre for a ballet The Light in the Darkness (Slovak: Svetlo v tme) directed and choreographed by Ondrej Šoth.[1] The success of this project was followed by a collaboration with the Slovak mime artist Milan Sládek. Novinski eventually worked with prestigious theaters in Slovakia, Czech republic and Hungary, including the National Theatre in Prague and Vígszínház Theatre in Budapest.[2]
He was awarded Czech Film and Television Academy Award Czech Lion for Best Music for the film Kooky (Czech: Kuky se vrací, 2010),[3] directed by the Oscar-winning director Jan Svěrák.[4] He also won Slovak Film and Television Academy Slnko v sieti Award in 2010 for the Best Original Score for Jiří Chlumský’s film Broken Promise (Slovak: Nedodržaný sľub, 2009)[5] and in 2014 for the Best Original Score for David Ondříček's film In the Shadow (Czech: Ve stínu, 2012) together with Jan P. Muchow.
Novinski’s latest works include original score for the critically acclaimed film In the Shadows (Czech: Ve stínu, 2012)[6][7][8] by David Ondříček, co-written with his longtime collaborator Jan P. Muchow. The film received the Czech Film Critics’ Award 2012 and Czech Golden Lion Award 2012 for the best original score, among other prizes.[9][10]
