Michelyn Butler is a beauty queen from Tampa, Florida who competed in the Miss USA pageant in 2008. She was born in Madison, Wisconsin.

Earlier Life

After graduating from the University of Florida, Butler moved to Madison, Wisconsin to pursue a doctorate in educational psychology at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Pageant Experience

In June 2007, competing as Miss Fox River Valley (a title she won in Appleton, Wisconsin), Butler placed first runner-up in the 2007 Miss Wisconsin competition in Oshkosh. This placement qualified her for the National Sweetheart 2007 pageant.[1] In September she won the 2008 Miss Wisconsin USA pageant in Middleton, Wisconsin, and represented Wisconsin in the 2008 Miss USA pageant on April 11, 2008 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Butler is the second African-American woman to win the title.[2] She was crowned by Caitlin Morrall, who also placed first runner-up at Miss Wisconsin months prior to winning the Miss Wisconsin USA 2007 title.
