Middleton Cricket Club

Middleton Cricket Club, based in Middleton, in the Metropolitan Borough of Rochdale, Greater Manchester are an English Cricket team currently playing in the Central Lancashire League. Basil D'Oliveira, Hedley Verity, Roy Gilchrist and Peter Sleep are all past Professionals who have at one time or another played Test Cricket. The only actual amateur from the Club to play Test Cricket was the legendary Fast Bowler Frank Tyson.

Recently they signed Michael Smith as their professional for the upcoming 2011 season. Michael currently plays for the Chevrolet Warriors in domestic Cricket in South Africa, and is a right-handed batsmen and right arm seam bowler.

In 2009, the First Eleven finished fourth in their league, hence qualifying for the LCB Knockout Cup for the first time since 2002. And the Second Eleven finished in the runners up position in their league. The club as a whole was awarded the Aggregate Trophy for having the highest points total overall.

Cheekily, the scoreboard building has the same windvane design (Father Time replacing the bails) as that of the Marylebone Cricket Club, whose initials are also used by Middleton.
