Midhun Jith (born April 2, 1989) is a Marine Engineer and Former 2 times World Kickboxing Federation Champion who competes in the light heavyweight divisions. he is the only Indian to hold the World Kick boxing Championship and International Karate Championship at the same time.[1][2] and He is first ever Guinness World Record holder to win a World Kickboxing Federation World Championship.
Midhun won the World Kickboxing Championship at Zagreb Croatia in 2013 and broke 2 Guinness World Records for the maximum number of martial arts kicks (in 1 minute 310 kicks and in 3 minutes 608 kicks).[1][3] Midhun is a 2 times International Karate Champion,Indo-Sri Lanka karate champion, 17 times National Karate Champion, 3 times National Open fight champion, He won the Indian National Open Kickboxing Championship, and was the Best fighter of the year 2012 in Karate. He won the “King of Kumite” title in 2012 and he is the first Indian to have been trained by the world best professional fight team Golden Glory.[2]
Background
Midhun was born on April 2, 1989, at Wayanad, Kerala, India. He was the elder among the two kids of his family. He finished his schooling from N.S.S.H.S.S (Kalpetta). He then did his B.Tech in Marine Engineering
He was also known as an artist (Oil painting, Pencil drawing and numerous sketches.) During his school days he won several prizes for Chenda melam and Thayambaka. Midhun was very active in School dramas as well.
Career in Martial Arts
He started his martial arts career at the age of 8 with his younger brother Nithinjith( Former National Karate Champion ) .SHIHAN Gireesh PK made a fighter out of him by teaching him Shito-ryu Karate. He started to learn Taekwondo and judo under Gireesh from the early stage.
Midhun’s first achievement was in Taekwondo district championship. He won Gold in the championship. He won Gold for judo in District level in 2002.
He Won his First National Gold (India) in karate at the age of 10,
He holds his first Black belt at the age of 12, under P.K. Gireesh. Later on, Midhun won 18 National Championships consecutively under different styles, categories and Federations. Also at the same time, he won 21 state championships consecutively.
After giving a walkover (since opponent was equal to his master) for the National Open Final Fight, his first era of martial arts career came to an end by 2007.
He made his second come back by breaking the Guinness World Record by 2011[4] and won 2 International Karate Championship and 2 National Championship in Karate.
Midhun won the Best fighter of the year 2012 title and King of Kumite at the same year.
One of the world best professional fight team Golden Glory invites Midhun for training session with legendary trainers and World Champions. He trained with Geronwit, Boris Nicolai, Mike, Filip Verlinden and Bas Boon.
After the Dutch kickboxing and Muay thai training from Golden Glory Thailand he came back to India and won the World Championship at Zagreb, Croatia.
Guinness World Records
2011 June 25 he makes his first Guinness world record breaking attempt against Ahmad Husain from Pakistan for most martial arts kicks in 1 minute he hit 288 kicks in one minute and broke the current record of 190 kicks
But because of the problem in video footage the GWR authority request to smash the record again. After 4 months Raul C Meza from the US broke the record of Ahmad Husain and made new record of 281 kicks in one minute. October 28, 2011 Midhun smashed Meza ‘s record and hit 310 kicks in one minute and also he create his own record of 608 kicks martial arts kicks in 3 minutes .\ .[1][2][4]
World Kickboxing Championship
In 2012, Midhun got an invitation from Golden Glory for training session at Golden Glory Thailand . He was privileged to be the first Indian to get trained at Golden Glory in Thailand and was trained by Bas boon and other world top class trainers. After the Dutch Kickboxing and Muay thai training from Golden GloryThailand, he went back to India and Enter in national kickboxing team by winning National kickboxing championship. He won the World Kickboxing Championship at Zagreb, Croatia in 2013.[2]
