Mighty Sounds is one of the biggest ska and punk rock festivals in Europe.[1] The festival, located in the Czech Republic, first took place in 2005, in the village of Olší near Opařany, remaining at that location for its first five years.[2] In 2010 it was moved to the disused airport of Tábor. In 2007 the festival attracted around 10,000 people,[3] and in 2010 its attendance exceeded 12,000 people.

Festival

Mighty Sounds festival originated as a small three-day event at the village of Olší near Tábor. The event became quickly popular among fans of punk and ska music in the Czech Republic and neighbouring countries too. Originally the festival featured one big stage and a second smaller one plus a smaller stage called Theatre tent. A smaller tent called "Sado maso stage" featured techno and drum'n'bass DJs during the festival. After heavy rain in 2009 the area of the festival and a nearby campsite for visitors was damaged by loads of mud, and the owner of the festival site didn't want to renew the contract for next event. Mighty Sounds moved to an unused grass-covered airfield in Tábor for the 2010 event. The festival now featured two big stages for the first time, called the Jan Hus and Jan Zizka stages. There is also a Theater tent where less-known bands perform, the Radio 1 stage, which features electronic music DJs, and the Rudeboy Rhythm stage, which features DJs playing variety of genres, usually older ska, reggae, rocksteady and punk music. Festival also features lots of food and drink stands, merchandise, a u-ramp for skateboarders and BMX riders, workshops, and special events.
