Mihkel Raud is an Estonian writer, blogger, playwright, TV personality, singer, guitarist, journalist and member of the Estonian Parliament.[1]

Writing

Raud published his first book “How To Build A Music Web Site That Sells” at the age of 34, in 2003. His best known work, an autobiography called “Musta pori näkku” (Black Dirt in Your Face), was published in 2008.[2] In 2010, he wrote a thriller called “Sinine on sinu taevas” (Blue is Your Sky).[3] In 2012, Raud wrote a stage play called “American Monkey” which has been staged internationally including the United States, Finland and Russia.[4][5]

Music

Raud is most popularly known as a musician in his country. He has been involved in numerous Estonian bands as a guitarist, singer and songwriter. The bands Raud has been a member of are, Golem, Metallist, Ba-Bach, Singer Vinger,[6] Mr. Lawrence,[7] and Lenna.[8]

In 2002, he produced a medieval Black Sabbath tribute album “Sabbatum”, which contained 14 classic Sabbath tracks performed by medieval music band Rondellus and sung in Latin.[9]

Politics

Raud is an MP in the Estonian Parliament representing Tartu. He belongs to the Economic Affairs Committee and European Union Affairs Committee.[10][11] He is a member of the Social Democratic Party in Estonia.

Television

He singularly hosted the first five seasons the television show “Seitse Vaprat”, which was shown on the largest Estonian television station, Eesti Televisioon. It was a weekly music chart show that aired weekly in 1994-2003. More lately, Raud has been working as one of the three judges on Eesti otsib superstaari, the Estonian equivalent of American Idol; and Eesti Talent, the Estonian equivalent of America’s Got Talent. He also hosted a weekly talk show on TV3, which is one of the biggest commercial networks in Estonia.[12][13]

Radio

Raud has worked in the Estonian radio industry for over 20 years as a DJ in Radio Kuku and Raadio 2.[14] He currently is a member of the Board of the Estonian Public Broadcasting.[15]

Journalism

He worked as a major culture reviewer and columnist in major three Estonian newspapers: Eesti Päevaleht, Postimees, Eesti Ekspress. He has written album reviews and in-depth concert reviews for all major Estonian newspapers.[16]
