Micah Brown (born Micah Rickenbacker, January 5, 1987), better known by his stage name Mike Baggz, is an American rapper and songwriter who grew up in Brentwood, New York.[3] He is best known for his appearances on various mixtape projects/compilations & radio single releases.[4]

Early life

Mike Baggz was born and raised in Brentwood, New York. His original last name Rickenbacker, was changed after he was adopted by Gerald & Carlyne Brown at the age of 11. Baggz was raised in the middle class suburbs of New York in a small town called Islip, which is home to many influential artists such as Keith Murray, EPMD, LL Cool J, & Craig Mack.

Baggz graduated from Brentwood High School,[5] which is located in one of the most populated school districts in our country.[6] Baggz also attended Suffolk Community College in Brentwood, Long Island. Mike appeared on his first mixtape compilation project "Its Afficial vol. 1" hosted by Dj Deal$[7] in 2005 while still attending Brentwood high-school. Even though he had a rough childhood, Mike decided to pursue music and choose a more positive route to ensure a successful future.[8]

Baggz was placed in the foster care system moving from home to home because of his parents street lifestyle in Amityville, Long Island. His mother a drug addict & his father Matthew a well-known drug dealer who went by the name of Boobi where natives of Amityville, Long Island. Matthew also served in the Vietnam war and received the Purple Heart while in the military. Baggz' father died before they had any chance to reconnect, reconcile. The last time Baggz saw his father alive was at the age of 12. His father died in 2010.[9]

Baggz was adopted at the age of 11 with his older brother Malik, a prominent night club DJ in New York, to a wonderful family in Brentwood, Long Island. Baggz started having a more positive outlook on life and decided to pursue a career in music and used music as an escape from his life's instabilities, insecurities anger. Baggz credits his success on the decisions he made to leave the streets alone and focus more on his career.[10]

Musical notoriety

Baggz charted for 8 weeks nationally on the Digital Radio Tracker Top 200's chart with his radio single Toniht in Old English (feat. Ashley Martinez[11]) which gained him national notoriety peaking as high as #85 and in the top 50 independent charts consecutively.[12] Mike received various accolades with the release of his first official mixtape on Datpiff in 2012 titled Catch22 which won a bronze trophy for receiving over 20,000 downloads.[13] He also started a popular mixtape series entitled "Unsigned Hype" that has helped to gain notoriety to unsigned artists.[2]

2015-present: The Beauty of Money

In September 2014 Mike Baggz announced on Twitter he will be working on his first LP titled The Beauty of Money. On October 16, 2015, Mike released his project via. Datpiff for streaming.[14][15]
