[2] A Democrat who served eight terms, Villarreal previously worked for San Antonio's SAMCO Capitol Markets, specializing in municipal finance. [3]

He later studied economics at MIT and Harvard and holds a Master's in Public Policy from Kennedy School of Government. He is currently pursuing a doctorate in public affairs at the Lyndon B.
