Mildred E. Gibbs (1850–1935) was one of the first Afro American in the United States (45th) in earn a physician degree in the US, and one of the first afroamerican in obtain a Phd in America.[1]

High School

Gibbs studied in Charles Sumner School, after she graduate work as teacher in different schools.

Medical School

In 1896 Mildred E. Gibbs was promoted principal at her school and the same year she enrolled in Howards' School of Medicine PhD program, that earn in 1901.[2]

School Principal

Gibbs work as principal of Thaddeus Stevens School from 1904 to 1935.[3] Gibbs was aware that her students were lacking sufficient nourishment, and she started a lunch service where students had a good nutrition. Gibbs also started a program for student with low grades.

Mildred E. Gibbs School

Mildred E. Gibbs Elementary School is named after her.[4]
