Millennium Party

The Millennium Party series was a collection of music compilations released by Rhino Records focusing on a specific genre for each album. The series was created to celebrate the dawn of the third millennium. The series was originally entitled Millennium Party, but added the New to coincide with the "New Millennium", and also to create a new title for their sequels. Only the funk and hip-hop albums received sequels. All albums were released by Rhino Records and are available at their website. Almost all albums have no repeated artists, but the Rock 'n' Roll Party has two by The Drifters.^[1] The Emotions' "Best of My Love" is featured on two albums.^[1][2] Each album has about twenty songs. The Doo-Wop compilation features two by The Del-Vikings.

Notes

• The sixties compilation is actually a mix of pop rock (Just Like Me) and sixties pop (These Boots Are Made For Walkin')^[3]
• The new wave compilation includes Rock This Town by the Stray Cats,^[4] which was released in the eighties but is rockabilly revival rather than new wave.
  • It also includes certain songs that were actually released in the late 1970s.
• Most of the songs are the single versions. Most notably is the Lynyrd Skynyrd song Free Bird. The single version is much shorter than the album version, and shortens the popular guitar solo. Give Up the Funk omits the "Tear the roof off the sucker" intro and American Woman starts at the hard rock part without its intro.
• The disco compilation includes Dancing Queen by ABBA, which is often labeled as "disco", despite having few characteristics of the genre.^[5]
